Quote of the Day:

Originality does not consist in saying what no one has ever said before, but in saying exactly what you think yourself.–James Stephens

Publisher’s Notes:  Happy New Year everyone! Hope your celebrations, boisterous or otherwise, were spirited and happy. I begin the new year with a brief story: Over the weekend, I talked to a dear, old friend who had attended an intimate holiday party the week before, with seven other people there as well at whomever’s house it was.

For a brief moment or two, the conversation held between all of them had split off into separate conversations and he sat there in a deep armchair, just watching them and hearing snatches of the chatter. Then he had an epiphany: For some time now, he’s been fanatical about writing monologues. However, while watching all of those people, he realized that he loved observing all of them and that he wanted to write a play involving seven people, just to have that feeling again of sitting in that armchair, watching and listening.

He doesn’t know who these fictional seven are, nor why they’re together, nor what he wants to know about them. Not yet anyway. Procrastination and preferred laziness stymied a few monologues he thought about writing, but hearing an enthusiasm over the phone much different than when he talked about monologues, I think he’s going to see this project all the way through.

And with that, I’m curious: What are your writing goals for 2008?

Post your answers below in the comments so we can all see them!

Have a great day!
