Quote of the Day:

Every noble work is at first impossible.–Thomas Carlyle

Publisher’s Notes:  Good morning! Today’s response to this week’s question comes from Kerri:“I worked on my 2008 business plan on Monday. In short, my income needs to increase this year. I’m going to accomplish that by being more focused on my writing specialties and resume networking - something I haven’t been doing due to moving last year. I interviewed a six-figure freelancer for my blog www.kcwrite4u.blogspot.com and her comments helped me narrow my focus even more.”Thanks Kerri! Lots of time for more responses, so if you’ve got ‘em, post ’em below in the comments for all to see.

That’s it for today. Have a good day!

Make Every Day Count! Goal Setting for 2008

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

Well, I’m not a big fan of “New Year’s Resolutions,” but with the start of a brand new year, I suppose I do reflect on the past year and set new goals for myself – both personal and professional.

As you may or may not know, I don’t come from a writing background, but a sales and marketing background. In sales we are BIG on goal setting and it’s amazing how powerful your mind really is if you use it to its fullest potential. I know … I know … Suzanne I’m a writer – NOT A SALESPERSON! Well, one of my goals for 2008 is to help you see that we are ALL salespeople to some extent – and writers are no exception to that – well, that is if you want to “sell” your work and get paid.So as I dive further and further into “your world” - the fascinating world of writing, I invite you to take a peek into “my world.” I promise to keep it FUN and I hope you will just have an open mind to learning something new.  First Sales Tidbit for this New Year:  In the “sales world” we use a “Sales Days Calendar.” Assuming a Monday – Friday work week (and excluding holidays), we will have 252 “sales days” in 2008. We have 12 sales days remaining for the month of January and today is 20% of your work week – so … let’s both MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT!!!   Have a terrific day! Suzanne Franco, Freelance Daily

Quote of the Day:

Originality does not consist in saying what no one has ever said before, but in saying exactly what you think yourself.–James Stephens

Publisher’s Notes:  Happy New Year everyone! Hope your celebrations, boisterous or otherwise, were spirited and happy. I begin the new year with a brief story: Over the weekend, I talked to a dear, old friend who had attended an intimate holiday party the week before, with seven other people there as well at whomever’s house it was.

For a brief moment or two, the conversation held between all of them had split off into separate conversations and he sat there in a deep armchair, just watching them and hearing snatches of the chatter. Then he had an epiphany: For some time now, he’s been fanatical about writing monologues. However, while watching all of those people, he realized that he loved observing all of them and that he wanted to write a play involving seven people, just to have that feeling again of sitting in that armchair, watching and listening.

He doesn’t know who these fictional seven are, nor why they’re together, nor what he wants to know about them. Not yet anyway. Procrastination and preferred laziness stymied a few monologues he thought about writing, but hearing an enthusiasm over the phone much different than when he talked about monologues, I think he’s going to see this project all the way through.

And with that, I’m curious: What are your writing goals for 2008?

Post your answers below in the comments so we can all see them!

Have a great day!

Let’s get to know each other ;) … post your introduction here

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

Suzanne FrancoHi ~ I’m Suzanne Franco with Freelance Daily and I want welcome you to our community of professional writers and editors. Please take a moment to introduce yourself so we can welcome you and find out what we can do to help you with your writing career.

I am “mom” to three amazing kids (Austin 12, Nathan 10 and Emily 8  ) and soon-to-be step mom to yet two more (Alyssa 8 and Cobey 5). My fiance, Ken, and I definitely have our hands full with running our own businesses and raising kids … but I call it crazy fun. ;)

We live just north of San Antonio in the Texas Hill Country in a cozy (that’s right … TINY) home and hope to realize our dream of building something more roomy on the property. It’s 10 acres of beautiful oak and cedar - with a gorgeous view of the Twin Sister “mountain” peaks. I’m perfectly happy at home in front of the fireplace or anywhere on or near the water - beach, river, lake, hot tub, or pool. Ken is in the wakeboard industry so summers are spent boating and having fun with an adult beverage and some friends.

As for work, Freelance Daily is a fun and rewarding business. I actually purchased it from the original owner in May of 2006 and I’ve enjoyed the challenge of “learning as I go.” I do not come from a writing or journalism background … so put your red pens away ;) I have 20+ years of sales and business background and it is my hope and dream to help you as freelance writers find and land more writing gigs … so you can stick to the business of writing.

I have spent countless hours over the past two years dedicating myself to learning anything and everything about online promoting, search engine optimization, social media and marketing, online networking … and topics along those lines. If you could use help in any of these areas please let me know. It would be my pleasure to pass on what I’ve learned.

Please take a moment to introduce yourself in the comments section of this post so we can all get to know each other. Together we can share and learn and make 2008 the best year for each and every one of us. *SmiLes* Suzanne
