Quote of the Day: Don’t fake enthusiasms. Say what you think, not what you think you ought to think.
We’re barely into September and yet last night, I went to Wal-Mart to shop for a few things, and found Halloween candy already taking up one aisle. Time really has gone fast this year like, well, every year.
And while I can’t be sure as my memory of last Halloween is fuzzy, I saw different kinds of candy corn on display, apple one of the flavors among many that you wouldn’t expect to find in candy corn. I guess they’re really trying to appeal to a large percentage of Halloween candy consumers, which I think would be hard because if one hasn’t liked candy corn for years, what would make them really turn back to it? Perhaps chocolate, which I also saw. I’m reminded of the wise theory that says anything goes well with chocolate. They may be right. I’ll have to try those ones.
But you know, I half-expect to go to sleep soon and wake up in a few hours, finding egg nog in my fridge. No matter what, I’m still amazed at the speed of time, which seems to get worse year by year, but we do what we can with what we’ve got. That’s always important to remember.
Well, I think that’s enough of that, especially since we’ve got two days ahead that we forever wish could be slowed down to a speed in which every moment could be properly savored, preferably three or a thousand times over. I’m looking forward to it, and I hope you are too. So have a terrific weekend, and don’t forget to do a few things for yourself. Right now, on Amazon.com, curious about an author I came upon amidst a slew of writing quotes, I just discovered that there’s a whole line of “New York Review Books Classics,” featuring authors I’ve never heard of, but the stories within those book sound incredibly fascinating. I think I’m going to have to take a few minutes to see about all these books. Find moments like that for yourself too, no matter if it’s gardening, reading, whatever you like to do.
Oh, before I sign off for the weekend, one more thing: I’m not sure if they have them at every Wal-Mart yet, and maybe they do, but I saw in the Men’s section that they’ve got a Snoopy t-shirt. Very cute, and a lot of Snoopys are on there, from him being Joe Cool, to being yowled at by the neighbor cat (where we see the back of him launched into the air), to typing the novel that never seems to go past “It was a dark and stormy night,” and many more. Yeah, I bought one. It’s impossible to resist Snoopy.
Ok, that’s definitely everything now. Let the weekend begin and let us rejoice with the loudest shouts of approval that can be heard all the way on the International Space Station.
